Expanding Our Horizons

Tivoli

Tivoli Gardens
We drove to Tivoli outside of Rome. and visited two Villas—Villa D’Este, with the famous Tivoli gardens and fountains and Hadrian's Villa.

Villa D'Este

It was amazing to see

all of the waterfalls that were designed in the 1500's to flow with gravity. One even created air to play an organ--fun to see!

Hadrian's Villa

This villa was more of an archeological find. On 300 acres it is the "World's largest Villa" according to the information. It has not been restored as well as Villa D'Este, but it is vast in the area it covers.

There were also some amazing Olive trees by Hadrian's villa.

View of Amalfi

Amalfi

We decided to take a “quick drive” to the Amalfi Coast while we were delivering a car to a couple in Southern Italy. We found out that the road along the Amalfi Coast is not fast (try traveling at 5-25 mph with a stick shift on wet streets)—it is a very narrow road with many tour buses—we were lucky to make it to Amalfi! It was hair-raising to say the least, and it was overcast and not as picturesque as we had hoped.

  1. My son and his then girlfriend (now wife) visited the Villa D'Este and listened to the famous Debussy composition based on this place. I think it really helped to "seal the deal" between them. I'd LOVE LOVE to go there. You two are looking great and seem to be thoroughly enjoying yourselves. WAHOO!!
