Maurizio
We finally had
a lunch appointment with Maurizio, a young 22-year-old student we met about a 10
months ago when we were walking at the park. His
mother Elisabeta made us a delicious meal. Maurizio and his mother told us
about LDS missionaries from America that they had met 8 years ago. They had fond
memories of them but had lost contact with them. We were happy to
finally make the connection.
We celebrated Greg's birthday with President and Sister Waddoups because President Waddoups had a birthday as well. They are such great people! We really enjoy any time that we get to spend with them!
Visiting Villa Borghese
The Villa Borghese museum is amazing with many of the works of Bernini, who began the Baroque Period in sculpture with his realistic statues. Some of the famous ones we saw were his David, Apollo and Daphne, and The Abduction of Proserpine. There were also paintings by Caravaggio, Raphael, and Correggio. We enjoyed walking through the gigantic Borghese Park and bought a Panini from a vender.

St. Paul's 'Outside the Walls' Basilica
We drove on the Appian Way south of Rome to see St Paul’s ‘Outside the Walls’ Basilica. It is one of the four churches that make up the Vatican. The others are St. Peter’s Basilica, San Giovanni in Laterno, and Santa Maria Maggiore. We wanted to see it before we left Rome. It is very large—second only to St. Peter’s. The history of Paul’s martyrdom and burial there is also very interesting.

We also visited Rome’s Protestant Cemetery where the famous British poets John Keats and Percy Shelley, who lived in Rome, were buried.
